The cost of a Dental checkup will vary depending on the individual situation. The standard price is around $200, but this can go up to 400 if your dentist discovers any problems during their appointment and you need multiple X-rays as well.
Medicare offers rebates for children to access dental care in certain scenarios.
You can cover children through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). The eligibility requirements are that they must be between two and 17 years old, eligible for Medicare or receive Family Tax Benefit A.
These benefits are capped at $1,000 for children every two years. Services like teeth exams and cleanings can be reimbursed under this plan but not orthodontics or cosmetic dentistry services
Most dentists in Australia recommend a routine dental check-up every 6 to 12 months. However, the frequency of dental visits can vary based on individual needs. For example, low-risk children should visit the dentist at least once a year, while high-risk adults may need to visit the dentist every 3 months. Ultimately, the recommended frequency should be determined by a dental practitioner based on the individual’s oral health needs.
According to the Australian Dental Association, it is recommended that children see a dentist by the time they’re one year old or when their first tooth comes through, whichever happens first. The first dental visit should occur within six months of the first tooth appearing, and no later than the child’s first birthday. After the first visit, the dentist will advise on the frequency of subsequent check-ups, which is usually every 6 to 12 months.
Missed appointment fees will be applied if changes to your plans are not communicated to us at least 48 hours in advance.
